Humber Mouth Literature Festival has been produced by Hull City Council since 1992. It has formed a major part of the city’s literature development programme since then. It works in partnership with others including Hull Libraries, the University of Hull, and Wrecking Ball Press, and in 2017 worked in partnership with the BBC to form the major literature event of City of Culture 2017 – Contains Strong Language.  

The City Arts Unit at Hull City Council works to support, promote and develop the arts in Hull. The unit has played a major part in sustaining and developing the independent arts scene in the city, and played an important part in setting the scene for the success of 2017.
